“Sarah”, a professional road and track cyclist, came to us with knee pain that was limiting her training and and racing. Previous attempts at therapy had included stretching, ice, and new shoe orthotics, none of which had eliminated her pain. Her initial exam revealed a tender, rotated, and immobile sacroiliac (SI) joint, which is a common cause for the type of knee pain Sarah was having. After 4 adjustments to correct the SI rotation and immobility, her knee pain was gone. Two days later, she was on the starting line for a week-long stage race. She won the third stage in a bunch-sprint finish.
Therapy is a part of sport for all competitive and/or hard-training athletes, in all sports. There are stresses, imbalances, and injuries that are endemic to each sport. Rehabilitative and preventative therapies allow the body to counterbalance the stresses and continue to improve performance.
